Our sustainability journey
An integrated approach
Far from being considered as distinct from our core business, sustainability is considered in our decision making at all levels of the organisation and embedded in all our functions and divisions. By doing so, we want to create value for our different stakeholders including our clients, our employees, civil society, the environment in which we operate, as well as our shareholders.
With this in mind, we aim for an integrated strategy in which sustainability is integral to our two main operating missions: the support we bring to our existing businesses (active ownership) and the search for new ones (responsible investment).
We know that, for our stakeholders, our impact mainly occurs as a result of the long-term strategy that we pursue with our businesses. Therefore, we support our management teams in building a strategy which takes into consideration the societal challenges of their particular business.
In addition, we support them in reaching excellence in each of the Group's non-financial strategic area, namely: customer satisfaction, employee engagement and environmental impact.
For all these aspects, be they group-wide or business-specific, D’Ieteren Group encourages its businesses to set clear goals and to measure progress made towards their achievement in a defined time horizon.
When considering a new potential acquisition, we make sure that sustainability is embedded in the different stages of the investment cycle, from screening investment opportunities and formulating investment theses to the due diligence process, deal completion and active ownership.
We have been a signatory of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) since October 2020 and we will perform our first (voluntary) reporting as a signatory in 2021, with a view to further formalize our approach.
Furthermore, as a listed investment company, we make sure that a detailed and updated ESG (environmental, social and governance) coverage is available to the financial community and to all our stakeholders, be it under the form of an annual non-financial reporting or more regularly through our different communication channels (Group presentations, General Assembly and press releases).
